Smartypants Publishing was started by three women; a first grade teacher, a nanny, and an artist - all mothers with the same goal; to make learning to read a fun and playful experience for both parent and child. As we taught our own children to read, we noticed a need for easy to read books that were simple, consisted of 3-4 letter words, and were both colorful and fun. Most of the so called "easy readers" on the market are just not easy enough for a beginner and can be frustrating for both the parent and child. So after a year and a half of brainstorming, research, and consulting with a reading specialist, we have come up with a wonderful series of teaching tools in our Learn to Read Toolbox sets. Our first Learn to Read Toolboxs - levels 1 and 2 are available now. Each level will gradually get more difficult. By the end of the series the child should be able to go on to other easy to read books with confidence. We are also publishing several books to help teachers and parents illustrate the letter combinations that are often hard to remember. These books are intended to be read to the child. Our first in this series is the story of the H brothers, a popular tale among teachers, now in book form, that teaches the sounds of Ch, Th, Sh, Wh and Ph. We are also planning a Q and U Wedding book and a Letter Friends book in the future. | | |
