As parents of preschool and school age children, we found it hard to find engaging books that were simple enough for our early readers. Many of the so called "easy readers" available in book stores are either too advanced or extremely boring. By creating colorful and engaging books, we hope to foster the love of reading in the young children who have mastered their letters and sounds.
We created the Learn To Read Toolbox sets based on the concept of word families. Word families are groups of words that all have the same ending sound (rhyming words). For example hat, cat, mat, bat, that, fat, and gnat are all part of the same word family. Each book focuses on just one word family. When children are able to sound out one word from the word family, reading the other words become easier. This allows children to build confidence and reinforce their decoding skills as they master each word famiy. Children are also introduced to a few of the most common high frequency words, such as the, a, have, is, and it. Each book is short and simple, allowing your beginning reader to read an entire book, giving them a real sense of accomplishment.
